(5.1.20) Last week I received an invitation to record a song for my old friend's birthday and chose the Simon and Garfunkel tune of that name. It held deep resonance for both of us since we were young friends and for years after. While I had always meant to record Old Friends, perhaps I was waiting until I really felt we were "old". But now that time seems to be standing still, I felt I waited long enough and got a version finished.

Well, like many good things - I felt myself wanting a bit more. That and having some time at home! And so that's how I decided to record the album Bookends. For those that don't know it or don't know it well, it is a lovely collection of songs as written and recorded originally. Some songs seem very flushed out and dense while others are lighter and more airy and this all serves to balance the entire project. Also, it is about time passing. As I mentioned, time these days has taken on a new stillness and so this progression of tunes from birth to old age provides some relief.

I suppose my intention was just to learn through learning, and recording these songs. I will spare you my conclusions and close that I hope they hold up together enough so that playing it through is no great struggle or when it is- you will suppose it was inentional! Or maybe you'll just go play the original and that would be fine.
