about

I had just returned from my first ever real "road trip" experience in what began as a failed attempt to move to North Carolina. While on the road I wrote some new songs that were inspired by my journey or the scenery when I stopped for awhile.
Upon returning I called up an old friend of mine to help me with the recording process. I had, until that time rarely set foot in a real studio and I was grateful for the opportunity. We would work days and nights at times, fueling ourselves on large cups of coffee until the songs were finished late in the Fall.
The result is a blend of simple folk tunes with a few layers added on. The title song I had recorded originally at home on a four track and released as a cassette EP with three other songs titled "The Doldrums." Hope you like this version, which features the guitar excellence of my friend Mark on the Telecaster.

Old Man Winther

Assembly line pop producer and creative archivist. A song is nothing but a germ; a small, fairly insignificant particle. Output must be viewed by the proliferation of particles or germs. Backwards is more important than forwards. Do not worry about self-promotion unless that excites you but it probably won't and you are most likely not going to be a success anyway. ... more
