about

I have decided to OFFICIALLY release this dusty old album that I recorded in the spring of 2010, although it might have been 2009 come to think of it. How time flies! At the time, I was very interested in recording an album quickly and simply so that it retained some spirit of the moment. I'm not sure that I accomplished the latter although it was recorded during a brief span over one week in April.
I recall that it rained a lot which is always condusive to spending time indoors recording. That, and I had a week off from teaching during Spring Break. Yes, the kids go to Florida and I hole up in my room. Figures why I never get a proper tan. The rain though played havoc on the close mic'ed guitars as it bled through the thin walls of the upstairs room I was recording in at the time. So, I decided to use it to some effect on the song appropriately titled "Alaskan Rain."
There are also few instruments on this album other than my Norman Guitar which sometimes was the only backing track. I added some piano in tha band room at my school but the rest was done at home. It was my intent to have twelve songs recorded but a few unfortunately did not make the cut. Otherwise the songs I selected share only the common theme in that I thought they were recorded the best.
All were written that year in Philly, during brief moments when I was not consumed with my teaching load. Except for some remixing that occurred recently, I present them for the most part how they were recorded. Cheers, Chris.

about

Old Man Winther

Assembly line pop producer and creative archivist. A song is nothing but a germ; a small, fairly insignificant particle. Output must be viewed by the proliferation of particles or germs. Backwards is more important than forwards. Do not worry about self-promotion unless that excites you but it probably won't and you are most likely not going to be a success anyway. ... more
